QUAKERS FALL TO RANDOLPH-MACON, 11-6, IN ODAC MEN'S LACROSSE
Ashland, VA (04/07/01) - Senior midfielder Bryan Lambert (Lutherville, MD/Towson) and sophomore midfielder Hunter Price (Charlottesville, VA/Albemarle) each scored three to help Randolph-Macon an 11-6 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's lacrosse win over visiting Guilford Saturday. The Quakers' fourth straight loss extends their ODAC losing streak to 50 games, dating to 1993.
Randolph-Macon (4-4, 1-2 ODAC) jumped out to a 6-0 halftime lead thanks to a goal and four assists by senior attackman Hugh Purvis (Hunt Valley, MD/Calvert Hall).
Freshman attackman Josh Miller (Princeton, NJ/Princeton Day) and senior linemate Jason Gauthier (Kernersville, NC/Skaneateles (NY)) scored for Guilford (4-5, 0-4 ODAC) to open the third quarter and drew the Quakers to within 4-2. The Yellow Jackets answered with five straight goals to open a commanding 11-2 lead early in the fourth period. Lambert completed the run with three consecutive unassisted scores.
The Quakers rallied to keep the game interesting with three goals in the opening six minutes of the fourth quarter. Miller's career-high third goal of the afternoon with 9:04 remaining pulled Guilford to within, 11-5, but the Quakers managed only a Gauthier tally with 45 seconds left in the final nine minutes.
Guilford visits top-ranked Washington and Lee next Saturday (4/14) in its final ODAC game of the season.
